🏅 Basketball, Boys - Football
Tonight, we proudly induct Michael McChristian, Class of 2009, into the Will C. Wood Athletics Hall of Fame — honoring not only an exceptional athlete, but a leader, mentor, and lifelong Wildcat.
At Will C. Wood High School, Michael made his mark as a multi-sport athlete, competing 3.5 years on varsity basketball and 2 years on varsity football. On the hardwood, he elevated his game and his teammates, earning All-MEL honors as a sophomore and junior and being named League MVP in his senior year. His competitive fire, court vision, and commitment to excellence set a standard that still echoes in the gym today.
Michael’s success continued at Yuba City Junior College, where he emerged as one of the premier junior college players in the nation. He earned 1st Team All-State honors, was named 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-State, and was recognized as both Athlete of the Year and Most Inspirational Athlete. He was also ranked among the Top 100 Junior College players nationwide — a testament to his impact and work ethic.
His journey then took him to the University of Idaho on a full scholarship. There, he continued to grow as both a player and a person. He was voted Best Teammate, highlighting the respect he earned in the locker room, and created a Memorable Moment in Sports in 2013 that remains a proud chapter in his athletic story. Beyond the court, Michael excelled academically, receiving the Academic Excellence Award at Yuba and earning Dean’s List honors at Idaho.
Following college, Michael competed at the professional level in the NBA G League, further demonstrating his dedication to the game and his relentless pursuit of growth.
But perhaps what makes Michael’s legacy most powerful is what he has done since his playing days.
In 2021, he returned home to serve as an Assistant Coach at Will C. Wood, pouring back into the same program that helped shape him. He later served two years as Head Coach at Armijo High School, and currently continues his coaching journey as an Assistant Coach at Solano Community College. He is also a certified high school referee and has coached youth basketball since 2018 – impacting the next generation with the same inspiration he once embodied as a player.
Off the court, Michael’s discipline and drive continue to define him. At the age of 30, he began an extraordinary running streak in 2021 – committing to running 3 miles every single day. For four consecutive years, he has logged at least 1,200 miles annually, including an incredible 1,409 miles in 2025. That consistency mirrors the same dedication that fueled his athletic career.
Most importantly, Michael is a devoted husband and father to two boys – Kairo Kobe McChristian and Karmoelo Anthony McChristian – building a legacy that extends far beyond trophies and accolades.
Michael McChristian’s story is one of talent, perseverance, leadership, and heart. From League MVP to collegiate standout, from professional athlete to coach and mentor, he has never stopped representing Will C. Wood with pride.
It is with great honor that we welcome Michael McChristian into the Will C. Wood Athletics Hall of Fame – not only for what he accomplished, but for who he continues to be.
